This was the year of Covid. The
fleet held a closed to public in house one day regatta followed by a
waterfront cookout. The event was the season wrap up replacing
the awards banquet, fall party and probably the Christmas holiday
party. The regatta, the picnic and even the season awards were all
done by fleet people
In addition to the nine
competitors the fleet was able to staff a signal boat and two
markset boats with experienced captains. The objective was to
provide a large regatta feel with off course start finish lines,
gates and offsets at the weather mark all set on windward / leeward
courses. The team would be able to quickly shorten course legs to
provide an initial long weather leg and still keep the race times
reasonable.
Saturday morning started out
looking like another flat high pressure day with light winds filling
in from the Northeast predicted. The first half hour was spent
drifting in postponement. The Northeast winds finally came and
abruptly went left after the start of the race and oscillated that
resulted in a reach reach course at times mixed with some spinnaker
work. Three more races under bright sunny skies followed but
not until after the course was moved and reset. the last race
started about the drop dead time and got everyone in and boats put
away in time for a relaxed cookout. Both regatta and season
awards were given out ay the picnic.
